Gene Therapy Research Center

Gene Therapy Research Center

The Digestive Disease Research Institute created the Gene Therapy Research Center in 2015 with the goal of providing an intellectual environment for a diverse community of research scientists dedicated to translational research.

The main goal of our center is to translate laboratory discoveries into cutting-edge gene therapies for patient care. We specifically focus on applying modern genetic engineering approaches to discover therapeutic solutions for Cancers including Colorectal Cancer, Leukemia, Gastric Cancer, and Genetic disorders including Beta Thalassemia, and Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP).

Cleanrooms
Due to the need to use clean rooms in research related to cell therapy and gene therapy, a set of several GMP grade clean rooms including Cell, Tissue and Vector sections with an area of about 150 square meters has been established by the Gene Therapy Research Center for Cell manufacturing,  Cell and tissue manipulation, and Genetic engineering.

Deficient Mice Equipment

This laboratory was established in 1996 as the only specialized center for keeping animals without immune systems in the country. This laboratory has a physical space of about 40 meters, including a clean room and a special surgical space, and a separate breeding area, and is equipped with an IVC system for keeping and reproducing deficient mice. Due to the need to use immunized mice in cancer research, the establishment of this laboratory in the country is a big step to facilitate pre-clinical studies to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of treatment methods before entering the clinical trial. On the other hand, due to the needs of many research centers, this center is the first in the country to import breeds of mice without an immune system and is ready to provide services to other centers.

Biobank
Biobank is an important resource in medical research, storing many types of biological samples for use in research. We have here a space of about … square meters to store all relevant biological samples.

Cell and tissue culture laboratory
has a space of about 50 square meters, contains all the tools and equipment needed to cultivate all kinds of human cells, including incubators, class II laminar hoods, centrifuges, fluorescent microscopes, autoclaves, 70-freezers, etc.

Virus culture laboratory
including equipment required for the production and purification of viral vectors, like ultracentrifuge, laminar hood, etc.

Molecular laboratory
This laboratory with a space of 100 square meters, equipped with thermocycler, gel dock, trans illuminator, integrated electrophoresis and nanodrop is suitable for performing various molecular tests including RNA and DNA extraction and PCR.

General Laboratory Animal Care Equipment Laboratory
This laboratory, with a physical space of 40 square meters and a separate space for working with laboratory animals, has been serving researchers since 1991 to perform preclinical tests. The above laboratory space is equipped with an automatic temperature and light regulation system and has shelves equipped for keeping small laboratory animals, and three separate spaces for keeping the mice, rats and rabbits. It also has surgical and storage spaces
